The Department of Arabic Language and Literature was founded on 07 March, 1991, and already flourished into a full-fledged and leading Department of Islamic University, with its graduates playing their role in nation building finding their places in various job settings.

At present, The Department of Arabic Language and Literature offers several academic programs, namely four-year undergraduate program for the degree of BA (Hon’s) and one-year postgraduate program for the degree of M.A in the relevant areas of Arabic Language and Literature, Al-Quran, Al-Hadith, Arabic Grammar, Literary History, Literary Criticism, Comparative Literature, Rhetoric and Prosody, philology and Calligraphy, Islamic Culture and Civilization. Then there is a paid postgraduate program for the degree of Evening M.A in Arabic and Islamic Civilization. All these programs aim at producing skilled graduates meant to be active agents in bringing about the desired changes in the society.

The Department is actively involved in research programs in the relevant areas of Arabic Language and Literature, Al-Quran, Al-Hadith and others field of Arabic and Islamic knowledge. It offers a stimulating environment for conducting study and research through M.A (Research Group), MPhil and PhD degree. Alongside, the faculties and researchers of the Department contribute to the Arabic Language and Literature by publishing research articles and papers in the scholarly journals and books. The Department publishes a peer-reviewed research journal named ‘The Arabic journals’ (المجلة العربية) to enhance research activities in the field of Arabic Language and Literature.

Total number of present students in the department is 402, M.Phil. researcher is 31 and total enrollment in PhD is 23. Total number of full time academic staff is 19 and total number of non-academic staff is 05. Total number of Graduates passed from the first batch to 2012-13 session is 1171. Number of Masters passed (from the first batch to 2016-17 session) is 1105.
