Overview

The Department of English at Islamic University is a centre of academic excellence run by an enriched body of brilliant academics.  Since its beginning in 1990, the Department has been serving as an erudite body of scholarship engaged in creating scholarly knowledge in language & literature studies and disseminating knowledge among its students.

Department of English runs five academic programs: Bachelor of Arts with honours in English, Master of Arts (MA) in English, Master of Arts (MA) in English (Evening), MPhil and PhD. Each program's curriculum is designed with core and multidisciplinary courses to develop the learners’ working knowledge and skills in all areas related to arts, humanities and social sciences. Committed to equipping the graduates with state-of-the-art knowledge and education, the department regularly updates its curricula incorporating recent courses that emerged in English literature, language, Asian literature, European literature, American literature, cultural studies, Theories and so on.   

The Department enjoys a reputation of having over two thousand alumni many of whom hold significant positions in both the government and non-government institutions and in the national and international contexts. Ambassadors of the Department, its alumni and current students are what the Department calls the “IU English Family” and feels proud of.
